The Science of Refining

The refining process is considered by many to be the heart of papermaking. It is in the refiner where the fibers are prepared for proper binding, bulk, and surface qualities on the paper machine.
The point-of-contact in the refiner is the refiner plate. This is where the magic occurs to properly dress the fiber before it makes its appearance in the paper web. This is also the point where electrical energy from the refiner's motor is transferred to mechanical force acting on the fibers.
And it is at this point-of-contact where AFT excels. FINEBAR® refiner plates represented a breakthrough in low-consistency refiner technology when they were introduced. Through continuous R&D, FINEBAR™ plates continue to make breakthroughs today.
