COMPANY HISTORY

POM Technology was founded in December 1993 for commercializing the patented POM Concept – a compact wet end technology and related key components for the papermaking industry – invited and developed by its founder, Paul Olof Meinander.
The POMp, which is now the key element of the POM System, was invented and developed during 1992-96. The first industrial pilot installation, comprising four POMp units was started in MD Papier, Albbruck, Germany on May 22nd 1997. The plant was rebuilt into a full POM System in January 1999.

During the years POM Technology has made remarkable product and process solution development work in order to obtain the most efficient wet end system for the paper making process. Please see the results of this work on our Products and Applications pages.
POM Technology has received international recognition in form of Jasper Mardon Prize in 2002, Eugen Lendholt Memorial Medal from German Zellcheming and INNOFINLAND Prize in 2003 from President of Finland, Marcus Wallenberg Prize in 2004 from King of Sweden and the 2005 TAPPI Paper and Board Division Technical Award and Harris O. Ware Prize.

Today there are more than 60 installations delivered in Europe, North America and Asia. See the Reference list. The POM System has been adapted to various paper and paperboard grades and paper machine types and sizes. The benefits of POM System have been verified in tailor-made POM System solution installations regardless of paper grade type e.g. printing and writing papers. Several POM installations have been successfully implemented in specialty papers – décor paper and colored specialty papers with multiple grade changes.

In 2006 Aikawa Iron Works Co., Ltd, Shizuoka, Japan became the sole owner of POM Technology. Aikawa is a privately-held manufacturer and distributor of paper mill stock preparation and pulp-handling machinery. The Compact Wet End Systems of POM Technology combined with the excellent Approach Flow Screening technologies within Aikawa Group will give us the opportunity to provide our customers wider, highly competitive wet end solutions.
