The schematic illustrates a conventional paper making system. Through the use of POM technology some components become redundant (colored red) and others downsizeable (colored orange). Piping costs alone can be as much as 50% lower.

Mixing chests with agitators, pumps and level controls are eliminated. Also redundant, the backwater tower, the sealing pit, reject tanks serving the screens and cleaners, and the white water tank. Miscellaneous pumps and level controls may also prove superfluous.
The size of the couch pit could be reduced (if a POMit™ is used ) and the broke thickener eliminated.

The size of the cleaner system may also be reduced.
The use of a smaller disk filter is a possibility, due to a lower content of fines and a likely reduction in overflow volume.
